We are thrilled to have launched the Dads Club @ Mitra, an online club for fathers of children and adults with Autism & special needs. Aptly launched on Father's Day, June 20th 2021; with Cricketing legend Padmashree Dr. Syed Kirmani as our special guest.
The aim of the 'Dads Club' is to create a space for the special dads to come together to form a strong network that can become a backbone for support and creating change.
Vishnu Raned, trustee of Mitra for Life Foundation says "We conceived the Dads Club @ Mitra to leverage Mitra for Life’s platform to bring the fathers community together and make connections happen. It is a space where we pool ideas and resources and encourage like-minded parents to implement relevant projects. "
The launch was an evening of Cricketing anecdotes and fond memories shared by
Dr. Kirmani. Joined by his daughter Mrs. Nishath Kirmani Ali and grandson Hyder, who is on the Autism Spectrum, they shared beautifully the inspiring journey of his upbringing through a short video.
A group of special dads & their kids got the opportunity to interact one-on-one with Dr. Kirmani about cricket. The fathers also showcased the activities they bond with their children over. Dr. Kirmani appreciated the families for their dedication in the upbringing of their child with special needs.
The Dads Club meets every alternate Sunday and has completed three sessions. The response has been overwhelming and we hope to curate more and more resource sessions and fun activities for networking.
The best part of course is “No moms allowed”! A complete guys zone.
Let's explain ourselves to any moms who are riled up! Dr. Madhuri Vaidyeswar, Founder, Mitra for Life says "We have spent a few years working with our parent support groups, and we have seen 80% of our participants are mothers. We at Mitra for Life, are an all-women team, and we think differently! It was time to give fathers their own zone, and we also brought together an all-men team to run the Dads Club."
